provide emergency aid in the form of interest free manageable loans, to give guidance and information about the range of benefits that are available, to work with south Hams District council Housing Department, and if necessary put clients in touch with other relevant agencies for additional help. We provide confidential

counselling as each client has specific requirements and individual needs. We determine whether or not they have sufficient income to rent accommodation privately and, if not, we take them to south Hams District council Housing Department for assessment and to decide whether they are entitled to benefits. We also consult the cAb and/or Dartmouth caring with the client’s permission and our assurance of confidentiality. clients then find a suitable property and if necessary

we can then loan them a deposit or advanced rent and possible agency fees which may be payable. the amounts involved could be £700+. clients then enter into a contract with us to repay their loan through a monthly standing Order at a rate that they can afford. to date we have helped in excess of 183 people.

their ages have ranged from 16 to 82, single people and young families. Not all have needed financial support. We realise that many still ‘sofa surf’ with friends or relatives. the Homeless trust committee meets at st saviour’s

church once every 4-6 weeks. two of our volunteers are also at the church on every first and third thursday each month. the church is a calming and quiet place to interview prospective clients but we also have an arrangement to use the chapel in Foss street, if appropriate. there is a 24/7/365 emergency telephone number that

is available for people to call for help if needed (07816 36518). Our volunteers can arrange to meet needy clients to offer immediate assistance if necessary. Our other contact numbers are (01803) 722436, 835735 and 770889. In addition, we have an emergency bed scheme in operation. Our income is derived from individual donations and some local organisations. the donations are used to
