Stirling Road - Access for All Rethinking the link between Dunblane Station and the High Street

Stirling Council recently secured funding from the sustainable transport charity Sustrans to improve the quality of the space between the station and the High Street. The funding, which builds on the current “access for all” work at Dunblane Station, seeks to extend this principle from the station along Stirling Road.

The scheme’s key objective is to improve the quality of the street so that it becomes more people friendly, welcoming and easier to walk and cycle through, particularly for those with reduced mobility.

The Council and Sustrans have committed to working with the community and representatives from the Community Council, Discover Dunblane and the Dunblane Development Trust to identify potential improvements and develop designs that will be built in the period 2015 to ‘16.

The fi rst public community events took place on the 30th of July. An “accessibility audit” with Dunblane residents was conducted by the charity Living Streets, whilst a stand run by Sustrans showcasing the work and inviting comment was held opposite the Riverside Hotel. Throughout the day over 300 people visited the stand and more than 60 detailed fl ier responses were also received. Comments were wide ranging and focussed on smaller scale improvements such as upgrading pavements and more planting, as well as larger scale suggestions such as creating gateways and a civic square.

Thank you to everyone who took part and congratulations to Chris Francis on winning the prize draw. The comments received on the day and detailed responses will be used to help shape the development of the proposed designs, which will be presented at public engagement events to be held in November. Further details will be announced.

In the meantime, regular project updates will be posted on the Dunblane Community website and on noticeboards. Any questions or comments about the project can be emailed to transportplanning@stirling.gov.uk
