Newton Primary School
Our context in the fi nal term was ‘It’s all change.’ This has encompassed a variety of interests including ‘The Gruff alo’, Transition’ both to school and for the children who are returning to Newton Nursery.
Transition to school: This has been an enhanced programme of events including visits from local partnership nurseries, visits from primary 6 buddies, visits around the school, joining primary 1 in their classes, joining assemblies and playing in the playground with all the children. The children’s comments include: “I love the big buddies.” “I am going to learn all about numbers – adding and taking them away.”
Parent’s comments include: “The transition from nursery to school has really prepared my child for school- they have really enjoyed all the diff erent activities on off er.” “The lunch was a huge success and we enjoyed sharing that together”
Returning children comments include: Staff have consulted with children about what they want to learn more about. The children agreed they wanted more creative and expressive activities and wanted to invite their Mums and Dads in more. This has been taken on board and the children are being included in developing a book about the expressive activities so they can take a lead role on this. We also invited parents and carers in every Wednesday from 2.30 to join in with activities planned for by the children. The children have said: “I like my Mummy coming in to sing with us.” “My Granny has had good fun.” Parents have said:“I loved the way the children all participate in everything.” “The children know ‘The Gruff alo’ story well and did a good job acting it out.”
We would like to say a big ‘thank you’ to everyone who came along to our Garden Party at the end of term. This was a huge success and the sun shone for us.
