paid off’ do you reply ‘That compliment is not just for me but for all the people listed above’? It is your hard work and effort that has seen you transformed and you should take the compliment and run with it! I am thrilled to have a team that is partly responsible for my physical appearance and mental well-being.

I like

that fact that large amounts of people have been experi- menting with colour and texture to allow me a choice of primer, lip-gloss and eye shadow. And what is more, their deliberations will have been going on for at least eigh- teen months before it hits the shelves of a nicely laid out store in a nice box with information about the product in several dozen languages.

These bits of text are not there just for showing off

or proving they are the market leaders but for your best interest. Listing what is in a product and what the manu- facturer is claiming it will do for you is laid out so you can make an informed decision. If you make your choices based on what works for

a friend then you are letting yourself down and disap- pointing the people who have slaved late into the night to make sure you know what you are getting into. Even a perfume that smells amazing on someone else will not necessarily be right for you as we all have our own unique skin.

Buying products designed for your skin and hair type is

how you get good results. If you are not ‘suffering’ from lines and wrinkles then don’t waste your money on a

moisturiser formulated to tackle this problem. You can’t pre-empt ageing! Buying a foundation in a colour that is wrong for your skin tone means after one outing it will be shoved bad temperedly to the back of a drawer. ‘Your’ team will have spent years getting the colour formulation just right for your particular tone so take the time to do a proper test. The key to any of these deliberations is not to be

rushed. If a member of staff in a shop asks pushily if they can help you then this can muddle your thinking and lead to mistakes. Smile nicely and assure them firmly that if help is needed you will ask, even if you are quaking on the inside! Successful stores train their staff to read the customer in order to fine-tune their approach, get a sale and hopefully repeat business. Women working on make- up counters may appear to be wearing all of this season’s colours all at once which may frighten you but they are merely advertising the product and don’t really expect you to wear it in the same fashion. Take advantage of their knowledge but stand your ground. Ask for testers or samples, go away and use them, think about it overnight then go back if you want to. True winners win because of advance preparation,

training and focus. Treat shopping for beauty products in the same way and you will always find yourself on the podium. Happy trails, Readers, Happy trails•
