REGATTA 2014
Friday torchlight procession. A beautiful sight to behold, with much less stress nowadays for the committee and Harbour Authority!
Fireworks – not one, but two, fireworks displays light up the Regatta night skies – on Thursday and Saturday. Both sets of fireworks are released from barges on the river – the mouth of which provides a stunning backdrop to the pyrotechnic displays. Thursday’s display is the more dramatic of the two and Saturday’s is set to music, this year representing the RAF and 50th
anniversary of the Red Arrows.
Air displays – the famed Regatta air displays appear to get bigger and better every year. This year RAF Chinook, Battle of Britain memorial flight, acrobatic teams and helicopters will be displaying throughout the week. And the big one – the Red Arrows – will be in town on Regatta Friday, following the incredibly loud and powerful RAF Typhoon display. Dartmouth really has to be the best place to see the Red Arrows – the river creating a stunning aerial amphitheatre. Best views are from the Embankment or Jawbones Hill.
And, as we haven’t even mentioned the trolley grand prix, the waiters and waitresses races or the dog show . . . pick up a detailed official programme of all events, on sale in many outlets in the town.•
