GLASGOW CREDIT UNION: 25 YEARS OF SUCCESS
Glasgow Credit Union – voted Glasgow’s Favourite Business by Evening Times readers at the Glasgow Business Awards 2013 – is celebrating its 25th anniversary this June. So how did a company that
started with two staff and a handful of members grow to be the largest and most successful credit union in the UK? Te answer is simple says Chief Executive June Walker. “We’ve never stopped listening. Te credit union was born out of a need for an alternative to high street lenders and over the years we’ve developed our products and improved our service by listening to what our members want.’ Its partnership with other
local employers has also had a huge impact on its success over the years. With more than 90
Employer Partners throughout the city, offering their combined staff of 53,000 access to the credit union’s products through salary deduction – there’s a real buzz about Glasgow Credit Union’s local, member-focused approach to financial services. Te evidence of its success is
clear. With more than 35,000 members, customer satisfaction rates of 96 per cent, award- winning products such as its Consolidation Loan, and an updated website that allows consumers to apply for a loan at the same time as joining, the credit union has never been more popular.

Chamber launches the Green Business Network
Glasgow Chamber of Commerce has launched the city’s first Green Business Network to allow its members to be at the forefront of leading the sustainable business agenda.
The Green Business Network will support the Sustainable Glasgow drive within Chamber membership and the wider business community. It will aim to establish Glasgow as a leader in sustainable business practices through innovation and more efficient use of resources. It will also support the Scottish Government’s objective of a Zero Waste Scotland and Glasgow’s 2015 bid for European Green Capital.
In addition to championing this agenda within the city, the Green Business Network will share best practice and ensure that the Glasgow business community is well informed and involved with the drive towards more sustainable business practices. The network will also raise
awareness of local and national consultations on sustainable and ‘green’ issues and collate business-led response on the issues raised. The network will be made
up of representatives from large and small employers who are senior managers within their businesses.
