Touch down for ten years of high-flying service

Hundreds of people turned out to mark the one-off flight to Glasgow of an Airbus A380, the first time the world’s largest commercial airliner had landed at a Scottish airport. The one-off Emirates service was

to mark the tenth anniversary of the airline’s Glasgow-Dubai service that has carried 2.3 million passengers. Amanda McMillan, Managing

Director of Glasgow Airport, said: “Over the course of the last 10 years Emirates has established itself as

A380 service. This is a significant milestone for Glasgow and for Scottish aviation. “We have worked hard with

Scotland’s leading long-haul airline and we are honoured it has chosen to mark our 10 year partnership by operating Scotland’s first commercial

Emirates to ensure the success of its Dubai service and today is yet another example of its steadfast commitment to Scotland following the introduction of a second daily flight in 2012. “While today is billed as a one-off,

we hope it is the first step towards Glasgow Airport securing a daily A380 service with Emirates.”

Recruitment support

Members grow their pool of talent with scheme

The Glasgow Chamber of Commerce Growing Talent Programme generated more than £45,000 in value for Chamber members. The programme, which

ran until 31 May, supported Chamber members in recruiting graduates. It offered each company a

£1,500 wage incentive and free specialist HR support before and after the recruitment of the graduate to the more than 30 businesses who took it up. Acting as a specialist HR

partner, Shona Macpherson from Glasgow Chamber’s Projects Department, helped those who took up the programme with contracts of employment, objective setting and performance development plans to ensure the candidate was supported in their new role.

Alison McRae, Projects

Director, said: “The Growing Talent Programme proved very helpful for the members that took it up and is another example of the value that we are striving to deliver for our members.”

Chamber cleaner ditches her mop for the Queen’s Baton

Linda Cameron, who works as a cleaner in Glasgow Chamber of Commerce five days a week, has been selected as a batonbearer in the 2014 Commonwealth Games Relay in Glasgow. Aside from her weekly cleaning job in the

Chamber, Linda from Easterhouse has undertaken a wide range of voluntary work for the past 21 years. She volunteers for Provanhall Housing Association in the East End of the city and is currently chairperson for the third time running. Also, Linda is chair of The Friends of Provanhall

where she has volunteered for 12 years, six of which have been as chairperson, recently raising

£556,000 for the restoration of Provan House. Glasgow Chamber of Commerce nominated Linda to be a batonbearer due to her longstanding commitment to charitable work. Chamber Director David Scott was also

nominated by Glasgow Chamber in recognition of his contribution to the Glasgow business community. The Queen’s Baton Relay returns to Scotland

in June, after a 248-day global journey through Commonwealth territories. The final destination will be Glasgow, where on 23 July 2014 the message the Queen placed in the baton will be read at the Opening Ceremony of the Games.
