Second Inspiring City Awards all set for 2014 8

Many happy returns to scheme »Workforce Solutions has 130,000 reasons to celebrate its first birthday

Workforce Solutions, Glasgow Chamber’s pioneering employment advice service, has helped dozens of businesses across the West of Scotland access funding of almost £130,000 in its first year of operation. Formed as Glasgow Chamber’s

one-stop shop on recruitment, Workforce Solutions has advised about 130 businesses in its first year on staffing and related funding issues. As a result, a number of people have been placed in jobs, helping reduce the city’s unemployment count. The service works in partnership with public bodies including Glasgow City Council, Jobs and Business Glasgow, Jobcentre Plus and Skills Development Scotland.

This private-public sector partnership brings together services that are offered on an individual basis throughout Glasgow thus supplying Chamber members with a consolidated service that saves a lot of research time.

Reminder on the benefits of junior chamber membership

Neil Jordan, Chairman, JCI Glasgow Back in January, my fellow Board members and I held a strategy session to plan JCI Glasgow’s activities for the coming year. As a result, we now have an exciting programme of events and projects, details of which can be found on our website www.jciglasgow.com Our main focuses for this year

are increasing awareness of JCI Glasgow and what we do; increasing our membership through a focused and sustained recruitment drive; and increasing the engagement of our existing membership.

With those goals in mind, allow

me to tell you about JCI Glasgow. In brief, we are an organisation, formerly known as Glasgow Junior Chamber of Commerce, for individuals between the ages of 18 to 40. Our purpose is to provide personal and career development opportunities for our members and we do that in number of different ways. We run monthly training sessions to teach skills which members

can apply in their personal and professional lives. Members are encouraged to

participate in the running of the organisation itself and are given opportunities to lead or participate in projects of their own creation. We are the Glasgow chapter of

JCI, an international organisation with hundreds of thousands of members worldwide, so members are given many opportunities for international travel. We also run debating and public speaking clubs and events to give our members more confidence about speaking in public and to improve their ability to think on their feet and argue their case. And yes, we offer networking opportunities too in the form of various business, social and charitable events. If you happen to have employees

in your own organisation who you think would benefit from being involved, or perhaps you would like to join yourself, please do not hesitate to contact me, Neil Jordan, Chairman, at neiljordan@jciglasgow.com

The first anniversary of

Workforce Solutions was celebrated with a first birthday party attended by many members who had received funding through the service, including Speirs Gumley and Kissing With Confidence.
