Team makes the case for companies investing in Glasgow with help from leading figures
I
nvest Glasgow, Glasgow’s dedicated inward investment team encourages and helps businesses considering
investing in the city and does all it can to promote it as one of the most business-friendly locations in the UK and Europe. Glasgow Chamber of
Commerce has been working with Invest Glasgow recently on a series of three visits to London to promote potential inward investment into the city. In each of the promotional trips,
a carefully chosen team representing the city and the sector set out the opportunities for companies wishing to invest or seeking a site in Glasgow. In September, the team involved
in the promotional visit included Benny Higgins, the Chief Executive
of Tesco Bank and Nick Davies, Development Director of Land Securities, which was behind the £500 million extension of Buchanan Galleries. Stuart Patrick, Chief Executive
of Glasgow Chamber of Commerce, who also spoke at the event, said: “Property is a sector in which Glasgow is making great strides and some of that success may have been directly atributable to the Invest in Glasgow Property event.” Tere has been a range of recent
commercial property investments in Glasgow, including three speculative Grade A office buildings. In November, the team ran a
Low Carbon and Renewables Invest in Glasgow event at Dover House. Te event highlighted Glasgow’s position as a city at the leading edge
of the low carbon and renewables sector and outlined work to establish the city as one of the most sustainable cities in Europe. Speakers at the event included
Calum Wilson, the Director of Development Scotland for Scotish and Southern Energy; Richard Bellingham, the Director of the Institute for Future Cities at the University of Strathclyde; Alastair Brown, Head of Sustainability at Glasgow City Council; Charles Frize, Managing Director of Luddon Construction, and Stuart Patrick from Glasgow Chamber of Commerce. Te third event held in April
focused on Life Sciences. It set out the atractions of the Glasgow BioCorridor as a location for life sciences investment. Recent exciting innovations in stratified
medicine and medical technology have added to the already rich research base of the area and the high-tech facilities available across an accessible geographical corridor. Speakers at the event included
Kevin Moore, Chairman of the Glasgow Economic Leadership Life Science Work Stream; Professor Anna Dominiczak, Vice Principal and Head of College of Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences at the University of Glasgow, and Peter Silvester, President of Biosciences, Life Sciences Solutions at Termo Fisher Scientific. In addition to the events, Invest
Glasgow has compiled detailed materials co-ordinating the case and the messages to communicate all that Glasgow has to offer to potential investors and businesses seeking a new base.
