lasgow Chamber of Commerce is well prepared for the important year ahead


with new senior office bearers, new Board of Management members and a new three-year business plan in place. At the end of January, the


Glasgow Chamber annual general meeting voted in Vic Emery, the Convener of the Scotish Police Services Authority, as President and Neil Amner, a Partner with law firm DWF, as Deputy President. At the same time the Board of


Directors was freshened up with new members Suzanne Burns, HR and Communications Director of STV, and Nigel Kirby, Account Director for Scotland of Siemens. Te business plan, which covers


three financial years beginning in 2013-14, sees Glasgow Chamber moving into a new phase of development.


A new board and business plan for Glasgow Chamber is in place It aims to further improve the


financial position of Glasgow Chamber, consolidating the successes of recent years and continuing the process of reform. It will focus on improving the


offer to members and increasing the positive impact Glasgow Chamber is having on the business environment in the city. Te plan says: “Te Chamber’s


mission is simply to support our members in the growth of their businesses and to champion the economic success of Glasgow; supporting members, championing Glasgow.” Glasgow Chamber has been


undertaking a significant process of change that has seen it reform the


Partner and Platinum Partner membership offers. It has comprehensively


redesigned the events programme, which now features about 100 events a year. Glasgow Chamber has


introduced a projects team under Projects Director Alison McRae to deliver on its first Strategic Agreement with Glasgow City Council. Important work is being


undertaken with the Council in facilitating and helping to deliver the Glasgow Economic Leadership agenda, focusing on industry-led workstreams that are vital to develop the economy of the city region.


It has seen Glasgow Chamber


working to establish new groups to contribute to the city’s economy, particularly the Glasgow Employer Board and the Glasgow City Centre Retail Association. It has also seen work to


reshape Glasgow Chamber’s communication channels. Over the next three years


Glasgow Chamber will move to the next phase of reform that will see it tackle services that have not been radically changed in the first phase. Work has already begun on


reshaping the member service offers into five clear levels with all new members being introduced to this system. As reported in this issue of


Glasgow Business, a President’s Club is being introduced to expand Glasgow Chamber’s senior network, add more value and improve the senior ambassadorial function of Chamber members.
