Back to the fun routine
These days Christmas seems to become less of an antidote to the grind of daily routines and more of a routine in itself.
No doubt it is to do with age. When you are younger everything is new and exciting, but Christmas loses much of its novelty after several years of battling through the same stressful build-up, hearing the same music and eating the same food.
Having time off is nice, but only somebody resourceful enough to spend their holiday in a warm or snow-laden clime could lay claim to this being superior to a summer break.
Yet now we hear people lamenting their return to the familiar routine, citing clichéd new years’ resolutions and familiar work patterns as too humdrum and normal for them to enjoy.
Now Christmas for some of us has been normalised, the following (and current) time of year – relieved of the associated panic and pressure – is something to behold.
Some of the leisure activities suggested in this edition prove this point: a refreshing walk centred on a local pub, a trip to lovely West Malling and a host of top-quality shows at local theatres sure sounds a lot of fun for what is meant to be a drab time of year.
