Restaurant News Shampan 4 receives accolade
A WESTERHAM restaurant picked up an accolade in an awards ceremony dubbed the “Curry Oscars”. Shampan 4 (at the Spinning Wheel) scooped best
newcomer in the ninth annual British Curry Awards. The event, held at Battersea Evolution in London, was
organised by one of the UK curry industry’s leading figures, Enam Ali, and was hosted by TV personality Chris Tarrant. It attracted hundreds of leading restaurateurs, celebrities, politicians, dignitaries, business leaders and influencers, including Prime Minister David Cameron and celebrity chef James Martin.
Tunbridge Wells Bar & Grill
THE Hythe Imperial Hotel & Spa has launched a newly refurbished restaurant called Coast. Joe Betteridge, general manager of the hotel, said: “We have invested in creating a contemporary and modern interior, which has been decorated to a luxurious standard, serving a new seasonal menu, embracing all things local, coastal and high quality.” The indulgence is in the detail; fine Italian designed
furniture, Villeroy & Boch glassware and crockery, cutlery designed by Robert Welch and a menu with a modern and contemporary British theme. The menu changes daily, reflecting the seasons and a commitment to local suppliers, using the likes of Griggs of Hythe for fresh daily fish and seafood supplies. Meat is locally sourced from Huntleys, Tenterden and free range eggs from Coastal Eggs, Canterbury.
THE barbecue from the Tunbridge Wells Bar & Grill has officially opened and promises to make short summers a thing of the past, with the launch of a 120-seat barbecue situated in the popular walled garden, recently refurbished and covered with a spectacular retractable roof. With the addition of low comfy seating, suspended heating
and candlelight, the venue promises to bring year-round outside dining, rain or shine. The theatre kitchen boasts a charcoal and wood-burning grill and oven. It resembles more a Harrods butchers shop and fishmonger than a terrace, with the guests being able to choose from a wonderful selection of fish, shellfish, meat and poultry. Passion for provenance of ingredients is clearly visible in this kitchen. Owner Steven Walker said: “After seeing some amazing all -
year outdoor terraces in famous restaurants and hotels in major capitals of the world, I thought there would be nothing better than to bring a taste of them to our garden in Tunbridge Wells.” The barbecue is also available for exclusive hire.
