Chelsea Flower Show award winner Heidi Lawley runs workshops so customers can take home their own unique creations. There is a great selection of places
to eat and drink in the town centre, including Thai, Indian and French cuisine, as well as good traditional home-made pub fare. The recently- opened Fancy Goat wine bar and restaurant has added even more variety. In the historic centre of nearby East Malling, the King and Queen pub offers tradtional home-cooked food and there's a new café in Chapman Way called Lets Do Lunch for fresh sandwiches, pastries, cakes and hot food.
Twitching the night away The Beatles were once the owners of Douces Manor, an old mansion on
the outskirts of the town, which was occupied by RAF officers during the Second World War. The pilots created the legendary Twitch Inn in the cellar, signing their names in candle smoke on the ceiling during the nightly blackout. Now preserved as a heritage centre, it is open to the public 20 times a year. War heroes who were stationed at West Malling included Guy Gibson of Dambusters fame.
Places to stay
West Malling boasts a wide choice of accommodation with lots of comfy inns and bed and breakfasts located in the town and surrounding villages.
The Angel Inn. This 14th century country pub is just a stone’s throw from West Malling at Addington Green and has re- opened its comfortable bed and breakfast rooms after a makeover. Two stylish double rooms, above the old stables, are available, both en suite with a flat screen TV, tea and coffee facilities, a hairdryer and free WiFi. The Angel also offers heavenly home-cooked meals and a great wine list.
Premier Inn. An ideal base for touring is the Premier Inn at nearby Castle Way, Leybourne, which is conveniently close to West Malling rail station, the M20 link and the A20 and has a restaurant and ample parking.
