Spring Colour, Hole Park Gardens, Rolvenden The gardens, which have been planted with spring visitors in mind, will delight visitors at Easter as they will be awash with masses

March 28-30 Quilting show, The Kent Showground, Detling There will be quilt displays from all over the world, patchwork and quilting suppliers. Workshops can be booked at the show.


March 29-30 Kent Big Weekend Castles, cathedrals, steam trains and river tours are among the visitor attractions and experiences offering thousands of free tickets over the Kent Big Weekend 2014. Details of all opportunities – from exploring historic houses, gardens and vineyards to surfing and art/craft classes – will be available from February 3 at www.kentbigweekend.co.uk and through visitor information centres. The website will remain open for free ticket applications until midnight, February 24. Visit Kent will then hold a ballot and allocate the free tickets.

Mother’s Day treat, Kent & East Sussex Railway, Tenterden This special Mother’s Day treat includes a two-hour return journey on one of the railway’s restored steam trains, a reserved table for your family and gift for every mother. On board the 1.15pm steam service from Tenterden is a


traditional ploughman’s lunch, or book a cream tea served on the 3.30pm train. Enjoy quality time with Mum, as you take in the beautiful scenery of the surrounding countryside. Families can extend their day and explore the many wonderful delights on offer in the towns surrounding each station. At Bodiam station the magnificent medieval castle is only a short walk away and visitors can step back in history as they explore the impressive battlements and towers, which offer breathtaking views across the countryside. Visitors presenting a valid Kent & East Sussex Railway ticket will be treated to discounted castle admission. Due to the event’s popularity, pre-booking is essential. Mothering Sunday Teas, Chiddingstone Castle Reserve your table in the elegant White Rose Drawing Room or the grand Great Hall for a delightful traditional Mothering Sunday Cream Tea. Tables can be booked from noon until the last reservation at 4pm. The castle itself will be open to stroll through to reach the tea rooms, but many of the exhibition rooms will be closed.
