Blacksheep Bar, Ryde Alternative Christmas meals

If roast turkey and Christmas pudding don’t appeal, why not branch out and choose a less conventional option for your Christmas party. The following venues all feature a special certain something, whether it’s an extensive cocktail menu, wood-fired pizza oven or tasty tapas.

The Coast Bar & Dining

Room, Cowes With its ultra-social vibe, you are always guaranteed a warm welcome at Coast - especially when the log fire is crackling by the invitingly squashy sofas. Wood- fired pizzas, sharing platters of cured charcuterie meats and home-made breads or tailor-made cheese boards make a welcome change to the usual Christmas roast. But if it’s festive fare you’re after, you can select from the Christmas party set menu for £21 - £24. Using fresh Island produce, the choices range from a traditional turkey crown to rump steak, sea bass or mushroom risotto. Alongside the eclectic cocktail menu and highly quaffable wine list, there’ll be mulled wine available throughout the festive season, served with mince pies naturally! Following a recent expansion, Coast’s new dining room together with the existing bar and restaurant can seat up to 100 people, so it’s perfect for most Christmas gatherings, large and small.

Bluebells at Briddlesford

Lodge Farm This contemporary barn conversion on the site of a working farm makes a unique location for a Christmas gathering. A wood-burning stove keeps things cosy and you can be certain that anything you eat will have travelled minimal food miles, as the establishment prides itself on using fresh Isle of Wight produce from the best of the Island’s farmers. Veal, calves liver, milk, cream, butter and cheese all come from their own herd of 140 Guernsey cows. The £22.50 three course Christmas menu features such delectable choices as Briddlesford calves’ liver, IOW lamb shank and lemon posset made with Briddlesford’s own Buttercup cream. Or if you prefer, you can buy all the ingredients for your Christmas meal at the adjacent farm shop, safe in the knowledge that you’ll be enjoying a 100% Isle of Wight sourced meal.
