Find Your Inner Calm
Anxiety is a problem that many of us face at one time or another, whether it’s an ongoing condition or a one- off worry such as the pressure of creating the ‘perfect’ Christmas. When it’s becoming too much to bear, there are lots of tricks to tackle the problem before you consider medication.

Everyone experiences anxiety differently. Some people eat for comfort, others lose their appetite; some have stomach problems when others get headaches; some get teary whereas others get angry. It’s important to treat the causes and not just the symptoms but there are a few things you can do to ease the effects.
Get physical
Exercise is the perfect antidote to depression and anxiety and it has instant and long lasting results. As well as increasing your overall health and well-being, concentrating on the physical movements of your body has a meditative effect and helps to clear your head of negative thoughts. Plus it releases feel-good endorphins that give you a natural high and add a spring to your step.
Treat your senses
Our senses are the first things to warn us of both dangers and pleasures, whether you see, hear, smell, taste or feel them coming. They are the trigger for our ‘fight or flight’ reactions and directly affect how relaxed or tense we feel. So treat your senses to relaxing and pleasurable influences as often as you can. For example, lavender is known to have a remarkably calming influence on emotions, but note it’s not to be used during early and late pregnancy.
Take a natural approach
There are of course several supplements and herbal remedies which can help enormously with anxiety, stress and nervous or mental exhaustion. Of the teas, both Chamomile and Green Tea are renowned for their relaxing properties without making you drowsy. Many herbal supplements are so potent that they can also act as sedatives so choose carefully. The best remedy is Aveena Sativa by Alfred Vogel.
