You think about doing it. You want to do it…but there are just so many other things that must get done first. If this is how you feel about staying fit, then you are certainly not alone. In the lead up to the busy festive season, squeezing exercise into our lives can be even more of a chore than usual. But don’t worry because help is at hand. We caught up with The West Bay Country Club team to bust the number one exercise excuse: lack of time.

Cut Down on Media Andy Robinson
Personal Trainer and PowerSculpt Instructor
“How much time do you spend
surfing the Internet, watching TV or playing games on your phone? You might be surprised at how much time you spend on Facebook or playing Angry Birds! Just a few minutes here and there can add up to an hour or more each day. Cut out just some of that screen time and you suddenly have time to squeeze in at least 10 or 15 minutes of exercise into even the busiest day. And if there is a TV show you simply can’t miss, then remember that catching up on your favourite programme doesn’t mean you can’t be doing push-ups, crunches, jumping jacks or squats at the same time!”

The Power of Intensity
Stan Holloway Personal Trainer and Spinning Instructor
“If you are short on time, be smart by doing activities that deliver maximum intensity in minimum time. Circuit training is an ideal way to achieve this because it provides a series of intense exercises with little or no rest in between. The goal is to raise the heart rate while strengthening muscles. It is worth remembering that ”working out” doesn’t have to happen in the gym or last for an hour! Squeezing in just a few minutes of physical exercise a day has huge benefits on your health, gives you energy and perks up your mood. Short 10-minute bursts of exercise, accumulated over the course of the day, can add up to big fitness and health gains too.”
5 Mix Socialising
with Exercising Sarah Moore Zumba and Barre Conditioning Instructor
“Do you normally spend time with your family or friends by going to dinner, watching sports on TV or going to the cinema? Make your social time more active…go for a walk with friends, go to a Zumba class together or take the family swimming. There are so many options for squeezing more activity into your social calendar!”
