strategy for the future. The trends in the wedding planning industry, economic cli- mate, technology factors and customer needs have all been integral to her change initiative.
When I first started my business,a five- year business plan was implemented. That seemed like a difficult exercise back then, but now leaders have to deal with a moving target. Entrepreneurs are finding that the nature of their business can change every three months. The lesson here is that many of us often work like crazy to make our companies successful without really taking the time to look at the changing industry and economic landscape.
Carol Katz of Atlas Interior Home Fashions,a family-owned business,dis- cussed the difficult process of taking her business into the 21st century. What had worked for many years was no longer working due to the economy and market- ing trends.
Atlas has since reevaluated advertising dollars, using social media and technolo- gy, and has revamped their website to meet client demands. Additionally,as part of the change initiative,organization- al leaders have strategically changed market base.
Taking the time to scan the external and internal environment and to make neces- sary changes to their marketing strategy has helped Atlas to meet client needs and has made them a more technologi- cally savvy organization. Katz noted that her company will continue to redirect their strategy to meet customer needs.
Taking the time to reevaluate your busi- ness on a continual basis by looking at trends, the economy, competitors, tech- nology factors and customer demands will help you cope with the changes that your business faces on an ongoing basis.
