CHAMBER CHAT

With Heather Rhodes, Membership Co-ordinator, Glasgow Chamber of Commerce

BUSINESS Describe your role/job? I work in Member Services and help support our existing members, recruit new members and make sure that all members are aware of the services that we off er. I also work alongside the Events Team and regularly help out at our networking events.

What skills do you bring to the table/are required in your role? As part of the Commercial Team it is important that I communicate well with my colleagues and with our members. I also keep up-to date with what is happening in Glasgow.

What’s the best thing about Glasgow Chamber? Being part of a close-knit team who are all so enthusiastic about Glasgow and what the city has to off er.

What one thing would you wish for Glasgow between now and 2014? I think the most important thing right now is to make sure proper preparations are put in place for the Commonwealth Games and the Independence Referendum.

PERSONAL What do you do to relax at the weekend? The weekends are all about catching

up with friends and much required sleep. A good TV box set helps me relax.

What is your favourite city outside the UK and why? Barcelona is a fantastic city to visit because it has so much to off er. It is one of the few cities with superb architecture, museums, a lively nightlife, a beach, shopping and markets, as well as fantastic weather and scenery.

What is your most embarrassing experience? My most embarrassing experience was falling while attempting to get on the train a few years ago. I had to be dragged on to the train by the conductor before the doors closed.

Name your favourite book/ album/fi lm? My favourite book is Captain Corelli’s Mandolin by Louis de Bernières, my favourite fi lm is Kill Bill by Quentin Tarantino and my favourite album is M83’s Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming.

If you could host a dinner party with four guests, who would you choose (two living, two dead)? Heston Blumenthal, so that he could wow my guests with his weird and wacky food creations (and save them from my cooking), Ewan McGregor, Queen Victoria and Marilyn Monroe.
