New Deacon Convener and Collector for Trades House


The Trades House of Glasgow bell rang out across the city recently as Hamish Brodie was appointed Deacon Convener of this charitable organisation, which grants in the region of £600,000 each year to good causes and manages funds in excess of £18 million. The retired Chartered Engineer


and former Chairman of the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (Scottish Region) will lead the Trades House until October 2014. He will also become Third Citizen of Glasgow during his term in offi ce. Ruth Maltman made history as she became Collector, a role that will see her support the Deacon


Networking Rangers’ new business initiative proving a big success


As part of the Rangers Business Alliance, the club has introduced the By Offi cial Appointment (BOA) programme which is proving popular with several enquiries each week. The BOA programme has been established to tap into the buying power of the club’s supporters and businesses, enabling BOA businesses to increase their customer base and net sales. NCS Ltd is the latest company to sign up to the BOA programme.

Businesswoman to help hospice cover running costs with fundraising drive


Marie Curie Cancer Care has announced the appointment of Scottish businesswoman Vivien Kyles to its Glasgow development board. Kyles, Chief Executive of Hamilton Park


Racecourse and owner of Arabesque jewellery store in Glasgow’s West End, has been invited to assist with the charity’s ongoing fundraising drive, required to support “substantial running costs” of Marie Curie’s Glasgow Hospice. The relationship has already seen Hamilton Park welcome Hospice outpatients and their families as


guests in private boxes at summer meetings. The Marie Curie Hospice in Glasgow provides


expert care and the best possible quality of life for people with cancer and other illnesses and support for their families, completely free of charge. Based in Stobhill, the Hospice reopened in


2010 following a £16.1 million “Big Build Appeal”. The Hospice’s annual running costs are more than £5 million, and while the charity receives around half its funding from the NHS, it needs to raise the remaining 50 per cent from voluntary income.

a select group of businesses who will be invited to become the club’s exclusive BOA partner within industry classifi cations or categories per region with businesses paying a subscription to secure the benefi ts for a season.

Eye on the landscape for top job


A partnership helping unemployed people back into work has been hailed a success after more than 54 customers found jobs with ISS Landscaping this year alone. ISS Landscaping has been

This has been the ancestral home to the Trades House and its 14 Incorporated Crafts since it was completed in 1794 by prominent Scottish architect Robert Adam. As well as a wide variety of benevolent work, the organisation continues to promote traditional craft skills, alongside new technologies.

largest ever intake from the Wise Group by employing 54 customers of which 40 are still employed with them, (74 per cent sustainment rate), the highest it has ever been. ISS has also committed to


provide more than 50 work placements for the Employability Fund Contract ensuring that customers are obtaining good quality work experience to complement their intensive training programme to gain their Certifi cate of Work Readiness. The areas that this contract covers are North and South Lanarkshire, Renfrewshire and North, East and South Ayrshire.


This partnership is a great


example of a third sector organisation working with a large private sector employer to support customers into sustainable employment.
