Enjoying the flowing cross country course with a jumps confidently through the feature Gazebo fence
This year’s event is now less than a month away, running over the weekend of August 17 and 18 at the hugely popular Cumwhinton venue just off junction 44 of the M6 in Cumbria. A new and improved course layout awaits competitors, which organiser Peter Bainbridge describes as “bringing a fresh, new look to the event”. Completely new this year is a BE80T course, which will add a further tier of competition to the schedule. Running alongside the existing course, the BE80T course has been built to the same high standard as the established courses, and will offer an educational experience for horse and rider over what are straightforward and inviting fences. Two BE accredited trainers will be at the event to walk both the showjumping and cross country courses with riders entered for the BE80T - details will be given to all entrants.
The flowing nature of the cross country courses, running across undulating pasture and crossing natural hedgelines make it a good ‘galloping course’ at every level. The impressively built and beautifully presented fences include the mini 4x4 course, the gazebo, the purpose-built 25m x 40m water complex, the sundial bank and a fun ‘windmill’ rail / ditch / rail combination. Designed to provide a good standard of mid-season competition, the course does offer alternatives at some combinations and if the firm ground conditions continue, ground preparation will be undertaken to ensure the going is as ‘forgiving’ as possible.
The undulating ground and the layout of the event ensures good viewing for spectators and there are numerous, varied trade stands and hot and cold food is available.
The showjumping course builder is John Collier from Blackdyke Farm Riding & Competition Centre, also one of the event’s sponsors and the cross country courses have been built by Robert McSkimming. Peter Bainbridge is again working with a number of sponsors to ensure the event is as successful as possible, and these include the NFU, Carrs Billington, the Lowther Arms, Murray House Livery Yard and Lloyd Equestrian. equine magazine is also supporting the event and will be offering some lovely, ‘exclusive’ to
theequinesite.co.uk hoodies as prizes over the weekend. Saturday’s competitions include BE80T, BE90 and BE 100 and Sunday will host BE100 and Novice level competitions. Admission to the event is £10 / car and includes all occupants, or free with BE Members pass. Programmes will cost £3.50.
