Seen as the pinnacle of Highland Pony Showing with Highland Pony Society Silver Medals on offer, the Royal Highland always attracts huge entries of Highland Ponies and this year was no exception. With classes over the course of the four days for Highland Ponies, Inhand classes started first thing on Friday morning. Judging in the female ring this year was Kate Dykes of the Mendick Stud. The Whitefield stud continued their success here with a win in the first class, the broodmares, showing Nadine of Whitefield with her foal at foot. The foal class was won by Heather Gow’s foal by Turinhill Kylemore out of the second prize broodmare Staffa II of Altnacailleach. Travelling all the way from Devon was made worthwhile for Paul Davis who won the Ridden Yeld Mare class with his own Lochlands Snow Maiden, while another winning pony from the north, Jackie Hay’s Lesley of Whitefield won the class for the non-ridden Yeld Mares ahead of the Baird family showing her sister Moyra of Whitefield. Onto the youngstock classes and three year old fillies came into the ring first, headed by Willie Simpson’s Chapelhill Honey, with another win for the Simpsons in the two year old class with Chapellhill Ivy. The yearling class and best female youngstock went Carolyn Munro’s Loandhu Silver Lizzie. The female championship was given to Lesley of Whitefield with her sister Moyra of Whitefield in reserve. The male classes were judged by Pat
