SIEMENS SUPPORTS GLASGOW CITY COUNCIL ON SMART CITY FUNDING

Glasgow City Council, with the support of many organisations including Siemens, has won £24 million in smart city funding from the Technology Strategy Board to revolutionise technology infrastructure. “Technology infrastructure enables the

integration of city systems and data across multiple agencies, which delivers improved and responsive city services, and encourages wider engagement with Glasgow’s citizens,” said Nigel Kirby, Siemens Account Director for Scotland and Cities Account Manager for Glasgow.

The funding will support Glasgow’s ambition of

reducing carbon emissions by 30 per cent within 10 years. Our Infrastructure & Cities business units in Mobility (low-emission technology, traffic management and prioritisation), Building Technologies, Low and Medium Voltage, Fire and Security Solutions and Smart Grid will continue

The Crystal

to work with the Council on implementing improvements. In addition, our Cities Centre of Competence at The Crystal in London, the local team members in Glasgow and across Scotland and other private organisations are helping the Council’s project team shape their overall solution.” Glasgow’s £24m Future Cities Demonstrator

Project will illustrate the additional value that can be created by integrating the city’s systems. It will help firms test solutions for connecting

systems and deliver better local economies and quality of life, while reducing environmental footprint and increasing resilience to environmental change. “Commencing with our early engagement during

the bid for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games and subsequently our City Account Management focus, we have developed an excellent customer relationship with public, private and membership organisations across Glasgow,” added Nigel.

The Crystal is a sustainable cities initiative by Siemens that explores how we can create a better future for our cities. It is home to the world’s largest exhibition focused on urban sustainability. Based in the Royal Victoria Docks, the centre

of London’s new Green Enterprise District, the Crystal provides a global knowledge hub that helps a diverse range of audiences understand how we can all work to build better cities. Martin Powell, Head of Urban Development

at Siemens, will be discussing the future of Smart Cities at our June Glasgow Talks. The event will take place on 25 June 2013 at the Blythswood Square Hotel, Glasgow.
