The Dunblane in Bloom volunteers are itching to get started and we have already been out tidying up the herbaceous gardens, strimming and cutting back overgrown shrubs and vegetation. The snowdrops are through and the daff odils are showing signs of life. We plan to purchase a quantity of Polyanthus, to plant in the barrels around the town centre and the Station Platform.
The summer bedding plug plants will be delivered to our poly tunnel soon and within six weeks they will ready to plant out. We also have a large quantity of begonia plants from Stirling Council, (which were ear marked for the tip). After a bit of TLC, they were over- wintered indoors and the fi rst batch, recently potted out have started to grow! The Rock Garden is coming along nicely and has been much admired. We plan to continue planting a variety of shrubs along the banking.
This year we applied to the Dunblane Wind Farm Fund for a grant to purchase the summer bedding plants, compost and fertilizer and to Stirling Community Pride fund for other requirements. We do however still need more funds to meet our running costs, particularly those of our essential van & trailer.
To meet this cost we rely entirely on donations from community groups, local business and the general public. We will be off ering the opportunity to sponsor a barrel again and we will be collecting outside Marks and Spencers on Friday/Saturday the 10th &11th May and you will fund us at The Fling.
