Performing Arts training in Central Scotland will take a major step forward later this year at Stirling’s Monument Dance Centre with the launch of a new one year, full time Higher National Certifi cate (HNC) course in Musical Theatre. Commencing in September, students accepted onto the course will qualify for funding through SAAS.
For the fi rst time talented students can study the ‘triple threat’ disciplines of singing, acting and dance, gaining an internationally recognised qualifi cation, without having to travel to Glasgow, Edinburgh or further afi eld.
The launch of the HNC marks a signifi cant step forward for the Centre and builds upon an already established strong SQA Performing Arts programme and impressive results.
So far 24 students have passed Higher Dance (80% with Grade A and 20% with B). In addition 6 students completed Advanced Higher units and 12 completed the National Progression Award (NPA) in Dance last year. A further 13 passed the National Certifi cate (NC) in Acting and Theatre Performance.
This year another 12 students will complete Higher Dance, 8 will complete the NPA in Musical Theatre and 17 will complete the NC in Acting and Theatre performance.
Principal Louise Murray said “Many of our SQA students have, in the past, applied for Performing Arts courses in other parts of the country. We are now able to off er a funded course in Stirling for the fi rst time. It’s very exciting and we look forward to welcoming our fi rst full time students in September “.
Applications are being accepted now with auditions scheduled for June.
