Rotary Ducks spring into action at The Fling Soon a group of eager Rotary members will gather together in a large open space to cast their eyes over a veritable sea of yellow objects. No, we don’t mean the lovely waving daffodils, which abound in so many of the open spaces in and around the area; we mean the several thousand yellow plastic
ducks that will be central to the Annual Duck Race, which will be held on Saturday 25 May, as part of the Fling by the River. Every year, prior to the event, a group of members gathers in one of George Morrison’s Mo-Lawn glasshouses to prepare these delightful participants for their starring role in the race. After sorting into groups of 100, each one is number checked to see that they have all arrived safe and sound. Should any have escaped since last year, then the reserves are called up and allocated their starting number.
Last year over 4,000 ducks were checked in this way to ensure that everyone who donates to the two worthy causes that the race sponsors, (CHAS and Childline), are sure their duck is there at the start, and better still may be the first to finish. Why not come along to this year’s event and cheer on your Duck? They will be on sale at the Co-op in Bridge of Allan on 4 and 5 May, Tesco Dunblane on 11 and 12 May and at M&S Dunblane on 18 and 19 May or you can get one on the day if they are not sold out. This year’s Fling has lots of fun and entertainment for all the family so come along and be part of it.
Rotary is very much a community group and we are always on the lookout for new members. We will be holding a ‘New Members Evening’ at Cafe Circa in Doune on 16 April 2013 at 6.00 for 6.30. There will be a two course meal followed by a Rotary speaker explaining what we are all about. Club members will be on hand to allow everyone attending to get a good appreciation of our activities.
