Throughout the Easter holidays, 56 UK towns will be launching the “Enjoy an Independent Easter” campaign to encourage more shoppers, especially families, to come to town and village centres and participate in “Indie Easter Egg Hunts”. By taking part in this new event from the Support for Independent Retail campaign, which was created by retail expert, Clare Rayner, consumers will be rewarded for taking the time to visit a number of their local, independent traders.

Dunblane was the first Scottish Town to sign up for the campaign and has over 17 shops and businesses taking part in the event. Following on from a successful Christmas Community event co-ordinated by Discover Dunblane last year it is hoped that Indie Easter will attract more of the local community into the town centre and promote the other events happening around that time. Toy Hub owner Helen Gourley said “it’s been fantastic working with all the local business and church groups and the donations to knit little covers for the chocolate eggs kids receive is just so generous and really makes our offering unique”. Families will be encouraged visit all the businesses taking part to collect stickers and then are rewarded with a chocolate egg. There will also be a prize draw for every completed treasure hunt map where one lucky person will win a family meal at local restaurant The Village Inn. (Maps can be collected from any of the participating shops or The Dunblane Centre).
Dunblane Businesses included in the hunt are Toy Hub, Shenanigans Crafts, Unique, Neroli, The Point, Choices Delicatessan, Archies Florist, Beech Tree Cafe, John Hill Butchers, Alaska Beauty, Burgess & Gibson, Bennetts Butchers, Fuzzies, Dunlops Grocers, Irene’s and Smallprint.
Groups of Independent traders are listed on an “Easter egg hunt map” and shoppers collect “eggs” (cute little Easter egg stickers that are placed on their maps) to complete the hunt. Once the qualifying number of eggs are collected the map is swapped for a real chocolate egg awarded to all the children taking part. The event runs though until Sunday 14th April, so it captures the whole of the school Easter holiday period.
