CYCLE CUBISM Lighting designer Gilbert Moity produced a unique interactive and experimental light art project for last year’s Fête des Lumieres in Lyon, France. Called Magic Cube, Dan- palon, a polycarbonate material was used to react to LED lighting to create graphics that vary in colour, speed, form and intensity. 28 bicycles equipped with dynamos generated the power required to create the kinetic movement of the piece. Every five min- utes, participants started cycling to begin the graphic patterns and movement on the cube. At the end of the allocated time and when enough power was generated fire- works around the statue were sent soaring into the sky. www.gilbertmoity.com
