gurrEnergy was the star of the show at the Glasgow Business Awards 2012, picking up the Bank of Scotland’s prize for Most
Outstanding Business as well as winning the award for International Trade. SgurrEnergy is a leading multi-disciplinary
engineering consultancy specialising in renewable energy. Te company provides engineering and technical advisory services in onshore and offshore wind, solar, wave and tidal and hydro projects. Te company’s clients include utilities, wind farm developers and investors, for whom they provide end to end service across the full project lifecycle including; feasibility, design, technology specification, construction management, operations and maintenance support. Established in 2002 by directors Ian Irvine
and Steve McDonald, SgurrEnergy’s UK operations are based at its headquarters in Glasgow. Te company has continued to grow rapidly over the last ten years and now employs a global team of more than 180 specialist engineers and consultants with extensive technical experience. Te company has a total of 10 offices throughout the world, with its first international office opening in Beijing, China, in 2006 followed by an office in Pune, India,

in 2007. Its international network now includes Ireland (Wexford), France (Paris), Canada (Vancouver), USA (Portland, Maine), Norway (Stravanger), Brazil (Sao Paulo) and Germany (Hamburg). In September 2010, SgurrEnergy became a
Wood Group company, joining the Wood Group Kenny business unit. Tis supports its ongoing strategy to expand and enhance its renewable energy capability. Wood Group Kenny’s extensive offshore project experience, together with SgurrEnergy’s specific renewable energy expertise and proprietary technology, will create a leading player in the renewable energy services sector. SgurrEnergy has a wealth of project experience and has assessed renewable energy developments internationally across 50 countries
and six continents. Te company has worked on a range of projects, from small remote power solutions of a few hundred kilowats, right up to some of the world’s largest renewable energy developments. In 2012, SgurrEnergy commenced
construction on Mongolia’s first ever wind farm, with staff mobilising to live on site in conditions as cold as -40ºC to support and guide the project. Te $100m (USD) Salkhit project, comprising 31 GE wind turbines, will generate 50MW of clean power to the Mongolian grid, which is equivalent to more than 5 per cent of the grid’s entire capacity. Last year also saw SgurrEnergy and Wood
Group Kenny being awarded the £17 million East Anglia contract to fabricate, install, commission, operate and maintain two weather monitoring stations in one of the UK’s largest offshore developments off the Norfolk and Suffolk coast. Te future looks bright for the company
with plans in place for further international expansion in 2013 and new projects in the pipeline.
