BARR + WRAY Barr + Wray is a fine example of a successful engineering outfit rooted firmly in Glasgow.


Established in 1959, Barr + Wray has demonstrated the value in never standing still and has grown from its roots as a traditional water pump distributor to become one of the UK’s leading providers of aqua-leisure facilities. Te company now boasts a reputation


for quality and specialises in five key areas: pools; spas; water solutions; process equipment and aſter sales. Center Parcs has recently chosen Barr + Wray


to deliver a £4 million contract at its new resort in Woburn Forest. Other contracts include the design and installation of pool and spa facilities for the 2012 Olympic Games in London and Glasgow’s 2014 Commonwealth Games. Barr + Wray commissioned seven


temporary pools around the capital for the London Games, which were used for a number of training activities such as swimming and water polo. In Glasgow, the company has contributed to


its home city’s long-term sporting ambitions by working on the £400,000 contract to create the hydrotherapy centre within the Emirates Arena complex. Tis permanent facility which will be used by elite athletes during the Commonwealth Games is similar to those installed by the firm for a number of football

clubs, including Manchester United, Celtic, Rangers, Arsenal and Chelsea. Further from home, Barr + Wray is


increasingly focusing on designing and providing top-end spas around the globe. Te company’s spas are situated in more than 25 countries worldwide and its wave machines are in over 40. Clients include some of the world’s most prestigious hotel groups such as Mandarin Oriental, Four Season and Jumeirah. To support its overseas ventures, Barr +


Wray launched a base in Dubai in 2008 to exploit opportunities in the Middle East,


particularly in states such as Kuwait, Qatar and the UAE. Tis expansion continued in 2011 with the opening of a division in Hong Kong, providing a platform for the company to enter the booming Chinese and wider Asian markets. Te UK and Ireland are the key markets for


Barr + Wray’s process equipment and water solutions services divisions, which operate across a number of sectors, namely whisky and brewing, soſt drinks, electronics, healthcare, and food and dairy, working with the likes of AG Barr, Highland Spring, National Semiconductor, Diageo, and the MoD.


BAE SYSTEMS BAE Systems’ Scotstoun and Govan yards have an amazing history in shipbuilding with more than 1,000 ships having left their yards, including some of the most important ships the UK has produced.


Tat desire to be the best and produce the highest levels of quality has earned the teams based on the Clyde the opportunity to be part of the Aircraſt Carrier Alliance designing and building the Royal Navy’s Queen Elizabeth Class aircraſt carriers, which is currently the largest construction project in the UK. At 65,000 tonnes each, the two new aircraſt


carriers will be the largest ships the UK has ever possessed and represent a step change in
