UNLOCK FUNDING

For businesses looking for an injection of money, perhaps to keep ticking along or to expand, there are a number of options available...

The banks

Banks remain the first port of call for many businesses looking for debt funding, as the process is relatively simple and well understood. Despite numerous government and industry initiatives though, many businesses continue to find lending either hard to come by or only available on unatractive terms. If you are to approach your bank, go prepared. A

strong, realistic business plan and robust financial records are a must. Funding from other sources, such as a grant or investors, will also help persuade the bank manager that your business is a risk worth taking on.

The Scottish Seed Fund

Administered by the Scotish Investment Bank, the Scotish Seed Fund (SSF) is a government- sponsored equity investment fund, able to take equity stakes of between £20,000 and £250,000 in eligible SMEs. Te purpose of the fund is to help early stage

Scotish companies with growth or export potential to find investment finance, usually at the end phase of product development or commercialisation. It focuses on businesses launching new products, exporting and increasing employment in Scotland. Crucially though, the fund won’t provide more than 50 per cent of the total equity funding required
