60/ OCTOBER/NOVEMBER 2012 THE RIDER Vanner Fair Infinity Rings of Vanner Champions

Vanner Fair, the red carpet expo for the Gypsy Vanner horse breed, announces the next Fair to be held in conjunction with Destination Equitation in the Hills of

the Headwaters on September 21st & 22rd 2013, at The Orangeville Agricultural Society Event Centre Orangeville , Ontario.

Protecting the breed involves educating buyers of the breed. The time has long passed when breeders could register a Gypsy Vanner that does not meet breed standards. Supporting this initiative, the Fair Saturday Agenda will include a Buyers Education Clinic by Equestrian Profes- sional, Wayne Hipsley.

The 2013 Fair will also be introducing an “Elite Sales Auction” showcasing only Gypsy Vanners with high eval- uation scores, the best of the best.

Relatively new to North Ameri- ca, Gypsy Vanner horses were bred by the Romany travellers of England to pull their family caravans. A people-sized draft horse, their breath- taking beauty and steady demeanors make them an ideal horse for fami- lies, beginners and older riders as well as very willing, athletic show horses in various disciplines. This September two Gypsy Vanner Horses competed at the Ontario CADORA Silver Champi- onships. Four-year old mare, Sasha,

of Wellington County Gypsy Vanner Horses and her rider, Kendra Taylor, of Fergus, ON took top honors as Open Training Champions and 11- year old mare, Shimmy of Kastle Rock, and her rider, Kaity Smith, of Mallorytown, ON won Open Train- ing Reserve Champions.
