The lux/hour limits on many of the ex- hibits meant commissioning was a careful process of fine-tuning the lighting. The V&A in-house design team was responsible for the focussing on the mezzanine and BDP designed multiple levels of dimming into the scheme to provide maximum flexibility for Ballgowns as well as future exhibitions. Each element of the architectural lighting was individually controllable and preset scenes were programmed to provide a range of lighting conditions. Finetuning to the levels was done on site; the work-horse of the scheme was the fluorescent uplighting which was dimmed visually to allow the spotlighting to the exhibits to sing through. Each ERCO spotlight has an integral potenti- ometer to allow for precise tuning of levels on individual pieces.

Fashion Gallery 40 ist der neueste Ausstellungsbereich im Londoner Victoria & Albert Museum, der als Teil des FuturePlan’ Projekts des Museums nach bedeutenden Renovierungsarbeiten wieder eröffnet wurde. Während der zehnmonatigen Schließung wurde der Bereich auf spektakuläre Art restauriert. Dies garantierte, dass er für die Ausstellung ‚Ballgowns: British glamour since 1950’ bereit war, welche dort bis Januar 2013 residiert. Die Beleuchtung des Daches stellte für das Design- team eine der größten Herausforderungen dar; wie genügend gleichmäßige Beleuchtung bieten, um ihm gerecht zu werden, ohne mit der allgemeinen Struktur des Bereichs zu konkurrieren. Die Projekt-Architekten 6A und BDP arbeiteten zusammen und entwarfen drei Lichtringe aus glasfaserverstärktem Kunststoff, jeder mit einem Durchmesser von mehr als 9 Metern, um die gesamte erforderliche Ausstattung aufzunehmen. There were many people on site at the com- mission stage all with a particular interest in the project, so finding a visual balance to suit everyone was a challenge. “I will judge this project a success if visitors leave wowed by the exhibits and architecture without really noticing the lighting,” said Ridler.
The ballgowns exhibition opened in the new gallery in May 2012 with a star-studded opening party with guests including Holly- wood A-listers as well as the celebrated de- signers of some of the creations on display.

La Galleria Fashion 40 è il più recente spazio d’esibizione presente all’interno del museo londinese Victoria & Albert, inaugurato come parte del progetto “Future Plan” del museo dopo essere stato sottoposto a sostanziali lavori di ristrutturazione. I dieci mesi di chiusura hanno prodotto uno straordinario spazio rinnovato, adatto ad ospitare un evento britannico di prestigio dagli anni ’50, “The Ballgowns”, che si terrà fino al 2013. In collaborazione tra di loro, gli architetti progettisti 6° e BDP hanno progettato degli anelli di illuminazione in plastica rinforzati con fibra di vetro (GFRP) e del dia- metro di oltre nove metri per soddisfare l’attrezzatura richiesta. Gli anelli hanno donato al grande spazio non soltanto un pezzo di illuminazione importante, ma for- nito anche una piattaforma di riflettori per le esibizioni sul livello mezzanino. Il profilo sezionale degli anelli è stato attentamente progettato per assicurare che l’illuminazione fluorescente lineare qui presente non fosse visibile da nessun punto della galleria; la traccia curvilinea personalizzata di ERCO viene invece incas- sata nel corpo degli anelli per una estetica più pulita.

Fashion Gallery 40 es el espacio de exposiciones más reciente dentro del Victoria & Albert Museum de Lon- dres, el cual se volvió a abrir como parte del proyecto Plan-Futuro del museo luego de haber sido sometido
a trabajos de renovación. Después de diez meses de permanecer cerrado se vio al espectacular espa- cio renovado, listo para albergar a los Ballgowns: La glamorosa exposición británica desde los años ‘50 que tendrá lugar allí hasta Enero de 2013. La iluminación del techo planteó uno de los primeros desafíos a sobrel- levar por parte del equipo de trabajo; cómo proveer su- ficiente iluminación para que lo favorezca sin competir con la arquitectura general del espacio. Trabajando de manera conjunta, los arquitectos del proyecto 6A y BDP diseñaron tres light rings (aros de luz) de fibra de vidrio y plástico reforzado (de sus siglas en Inglés, GFRP) cada uno de ellos con más de nueve metros de diámetro para alojar todo el equipamiento necesario. Los aros no sólo hicieron del enorme lugar una pieza simbólica, sino que sirvieron como plataforma para todas las luces direcci- onales para las exposiciones en el nivel del entrepiso. El perfil modular de los aros fue tramado cuidadosamente para asegurarse que las luces fluorescentes dirigidas no estén visibles desde ningún punto de la galería; el ERCO track curvo se encuentra empotrado en el cuerpo de los aros para una estética más pura.
