E-waste
AXIS Worx, formerly The Wool Factory, is a provider of meaningful employment solutions to people with signifi cant and permanent disability in Western Victoria.
In December 2011, an agreement was reached with Horsham Rural City Council to process our e-waste product. With the encouragement and support of Council, Community Axis Enterprises Incorporated established an e-waste facility at AXIS Worx where televisions, computers and printers are broken down into individual commodities and then on-sold to third parties. Resource Recovery caters to the skill sets and upskilling capabilities of Supported Employees in an environmentally responsible business.
Since the e-waste program commenced, AXIS Worx has received and processed over 71,000 kilograms of e-waste and is now contracted by four Western Victorian councils to receive and process e-waste. The AXIS Worx e-waste facility has provided employment for 15 Supported Employees, off ering them employment options including the use of state-of- the-art machinery and equipment in a purpose-built modern facility. It has also facilitated the diversion of a signifi cant amount of material from landfi ll and demonstrates a very eff ective partnership with Local Government to deliver positive outcomes for the community.
Horsham and Grampians Visitor Information Centre
Located centrally in O’Callaghan’s Parade, Horsham, the Horsham and Grampians Visitor Information Centre is open seven days a week from 9 am to 5 pm, excluding Christmas Day.
The Visitor Information Centre provides visitors with a comprehensive range of up-to-date information on Tourism Victoria and South Australia products, especially in relation to the Wimmera region. The centre stocks a large range of products for sale including books, maps, souvenirs and local produce. Internet and printer access is also available, and a booking agency service is provided for local accommodation providers.
A full-time manager and two part-time administration staff are employed at the Visitor Information Centre. The centre is also supported by a team of 20 dedicated volunteers who provided approximately 1,456 hours of service this year. The Horsham and Grampians Visitor Information Centre prides itself on providing a high standard of customer service to all visitors.
Training sessions and familiarisation trips for volunteers and staff are arranged on a regular basis, enabling them to receive up-to-date information on what is off ered around the region. This training is also an opportunity for Council to acknowledge the important contribution that our volunteers make to ensure the eff ective operation of our busy Visitor Information Centre.
In 2011-12, there were 18,873 visitors to the Horsham and Grampians Visitor Information Centre, an increase of 1,038 on the previous fi nancial year.
