Wimmera Intermodal Freight Terminal After 10 years in

mera I te mo nal

ears in the planning, construction of the $17.75 milli

million Wimmera Intermodal Freight Terminal is now complete.

Goal 2 –

Sustaining our Economy and Environment

Lead in sustainable growth and development whilst preserving the natural environment

The 23.5 hectare terminal at Dooen will: provide a central location for grain storage facilities and grain export processors, improve access to freight depots, grain silos and processing plants, and build on the region’s nationally signifi cant and export focused grains industry. The Wimmera exports approximately 60 per cent of total harvest and it is one of the world’s largest grain, pulse and oilseed growing regions. The Wimmera Intermodal Freight Terminal will transform the effi ciency and capacity of grain handling and transport in the Wimmera and is an essential next step in meeting increased global demand for our products. It will deliver economic benefi ts to the community and provide employment and future economic growth for the region.

Operator, Wimmera Container Line, will transfer their operations to the new terminal in September 2012. In 2013, Wimmera Container Line expects up to 22,000 containers to pass through the new terminal (there were 13,500 containers in 2011). The Wimmera Intermodal Freight Terminal will have double the capacity of the old terminal and dramatically reduce on-road transport. It will also reduce handling costs for Wimmera Container Line and grain producers.

Horsham Rural City Council is developing a precinct structure plan for land around the Wimmera Intermodal Freight Terminal. This will identify potential uses, zoning and layout for this area, together with infrastructure requirements.
