Summer 2012 Projects Completed

Park Updates and Community Groups DRINKING FOUNTAIN INSTALLATION

ANNEX RENOVATION In an effort to expand our preschool program into a larger and preschool-specific facility, the Recreation Department converted the facility at 2 East Oak Street from a Fire-Station-turned-Police-Depart- ment-storage-area into two all new preschool classrooms. Our Parks Division was instrumental in gutting the interior walls and ‘sleeping quarters’ while a contractor was hired to add permanent walls, hallways, and doors. This new Preschool will house two program classrooms, and will free up the Labahn-Hain House for additional programs and rentals. Children will have access to Ryder Park for play time as well as the Safety Education Center for off-site opportunities. Preschool is filling fast… contact us at 847. 960. 7460 if you’re interested in a tour or for more information.

Staying hydrated throughout the hot summer just got easier at two of our parks. Drinking fountains were installed at Ken Carpenter Park (Miller and Randall Road) and Ford School Park (Lake Drive and Ramble Road). The Water Department was instrumental in placing the water lines that would be connected to the drinking fountains. The Streets Department installed the concrete pads and the Parks Division completed the project by connecting the water to the fountains. Bring your own bottle to fill up or take a sip from the Village’s tasty water source.

Summer 2012 Projects In the Works

BIKE PATH EXTENSION AT SUNSET PARK Have you ever been walking, riding, skating or strolling on the bike path at Sunset Park and get to the intersection of Miller and Albrecht and wonder how you could go west on the path? Well – we have plans to install a connecting path to the soccer fields that will take you to the west side of the park and visa versa. Our Village website will post updates when this project gets started.

FORD SCHOOL PARK

DISC GOLF The Rotary Club of Lake in the Hills funded the nine hole disc golf course at Linda K. Fischer Park that was officially dedicated on June 12, 2012. The course has a few challenging areas: Hole 1 is surrounded by trees on both sides of the fairway, making for a narrow and long hole, and Hole 6 doglegs to the right on a blind downhill. The course is open daily from sunrise to sunset. Look for a fall tournament on the inside front cover.

The Lake in the Hills Historical Society recently moved the original Ford School one room school house back to its original location at Ford School Park on 302 Ramble Road. The building was previously located at the now empty property of Arbor Hills Nursery on Algonquin Road. Moving the structure was quite an undertaking… fundraising efforts to cover the major costs incurred with the actual moving company took over 14 months. Many volunteer organizations and individuals stepped up to bring their expertise to the project which included relocating and removing trees, and installing the foundation for the building. For more up-to-date information on Ford School, visit the Historical Society website at: www.lithhistory.org.
