Suzanna and John Anthony have lived in

Spain for over twenty-three years now, and still love every minute of it. As John explains, ‘Gigs and venues come and go, a change of ownership or even a change of chef can turn the whole musical atmosphere of a bar or restaurant upside down, but we’re still here, and keeping up our true professional standard means that there will always be work for us’.

John was urged to learn to read music by his father and practice the guitar for up to four hours a day, at seventeen he gave his first classical recital. At eighteen he took up the electric guitar, and at the age of twenty he turned professional, beginning on cruise liners, followed by seven years at the ‘Marlgrove Club’ in Bromsgrove. He next took the residency at ‘The Night Out‘ theatre restaurant in Birmingham. By day could often be recording with the ‘BBC Midland Radio Orchestra’ at Pebble Mill.

Suzanna started dancing at the age of two and at seventeen she took the opportunity to turn professional. Her first contract took her to Baghdad, from there she worked around Europe, and then on cruise liners, with the Ray Cornell Dancers where she met John who was playing in a group backing cabaret. Soon they realised they were meant for each other, and to prove that typical ‘Mills & Boon’ scenario does occasionally come true, they have now been together for over twenty-five years.

Suzanna now teaches flamenco, modern and tap in Jalon, Javea and Calpe, and is a teacher at Marcia’s Dance Centre. For the past four years she has choreographed the chorus for the Careline Theatre pantomime.

Suzanna and John have performed many times, both solo and as a duo at Benidorm Palace, and last year were featured, along side Suzanna’s flamenco troupe, on ITV’s ‘Daybreak’ live from Benidorm. Both teach privately, John is professor of guitar at both Lady Elizabeth School and X.I.C. in Javea.
