Can We Be Who We Want To Be?…

We can tend to look like our parents and are subject to the same characteristics that they have. We may even have certain behaviours or preferences of theirs. As we grow older, we become increasingly aware of the traits that exist within us and we get to know ourselves.

Our response to this depends upon whether the way we are turning out is acceptable in OUR eyes! We can make choices about the kind of person we want to be, but it seems that some people do not appreciate, or want, that responsibility! They prefer to think that they cannot make any changes to the way they are.

Though many of the tempers and temperaments that are yours are inherited, YOU control how they manifest in your life. The patterns you have witnessed unfolding in the lives of your parents need not be a part of your future destiny. You can learn from the decisions they made and choose not to indulge in the same vices. Their habits need not become yours. Life can be a real learning curve, and you can CHOOSE how to handle things in a way that means you will LIKE yourself.

Some people fi nd this hard to deal with, diffi cult to make the changes they feel they need to make, if their background has not been as good as they would have liked…… but thinking differently and getting on the right road is all it takes. And then each day we can smile and feel that we like ourselves!

Some of us have managed to make changes when we took control, ….we were probably helped along the way….. but you can do it! Take care, ………. ‘til the next time! Violet King…. Personal Confi dential Counsellor. www.makechanges.webs.com
