Mike Adams


“If you’re thinking about building, think BBC”.


This is the advertising slogan from British Building Contractors, known as BBC! The big question is why? I first met with Mike Adams, the owner of BBC about a year ago, and had the chance to catch up and find out how things were going.


Mike remains friendly, open and honest. In fact the first thing he said was to thank all the clients he had spoken to as a result of advertising with Female Focus. He went on to re-iterate about being integrated in Spain with a Spanish wife and family with a predominantly Spanish workforce. He knows all about council rules and regulations when it comes to licenses, architects approvals


and avoiding town hall fines, noting there have been some changes in the last year or so. It really does pay to stay up to date. Having a mixed workforce, and Spanish supplier base means that BBC intimately understands about Spanish materials and building methods, which means what they build will stand the test of time here in Spain. I asked about guarantees, and Mike explained “of course I give a guarantee, all professional workers should!” He also pointed out that over the many years of being in business, he’s never had a single claim!


Mike took great pleasure in showing the certificates from Alicante proving he has passed all the safety exams. Moreover, so has his workforce! When we spoke about pricing, Mike laughed when I asked if he’d lost business on price, especially during the crisis. As he explained “I’m not the cheapest and I’m not the most expensive, what I do is deliver value for money. Because I take my time with new customers and listen carefully, we both understand what’s needed from a construction and price standpoint.”


In fact listening is a rare skill that Mike is proud of “All I have to do is listen patiently and the client will tell me everything they want. I ask a few questions to get a complete picture. I then advise on any aspect where I think my experience can help, but in the end, you need


to listen and do what the client wants, not what you think they want!” It’s because of this that Mike spends as much time as a client needs before even a quotation is done. “This is the secret, if you get it right before you start, then both sides are happy. We know what we are doing and more importantly, the clients gets what they want! You have to remember it’s someone’s home we’re talking about, not just bricks, mortar, wood and fittings!”


Once again, I came away from the meeting reflecting on just how knowledgeable, sincere, genuine and trustworthy Mike came across. He genuinely loves his work, is proud of his team, and wants to help people in building their dreams.
