SPN APR 2012 ShowReview

SPATEX, BRIGHTON, UK

The all-new ‘Wellness Arena’ – one of many new initiatives that the show is looking to build on

line MP UV (optionally Ozone and AOP system) which have the ability to treat water flow rates of up to 1400m3/h. The UV systems offer a selection of lamp technologies (medium-pressure, low-pressure Amalgam lamps) suitable for a wide range of commercial and domestic pools and spas. The system can be supplied with either a manual or optional fully automatic cleaning system and, variable UV lamp power settings that can also be controlled by a user friendly control panel. Often high volume traffic in commercial pools can overpower the typical disinfection system, leading to higher chlorine dosing of pool water, increasing the risk of chloramines and chloro-organics and, subsequent dangers. These have been vigorously tested and show they are reliable in successfully reducing the level of combined chlorine (chloramines) to below 0.2 ppm.

NOT ALL TEST STRIPS ARE THE SAME SAYS SENSAFE ITS Europe stepped up its profile in the water testing market with its eXact® Micro line of photometers. ITS was also heavily promoting its

SenSafe test strip. The test strips and test kits get their name from their unique design which allow the aqueous solution to pass back-and-forth through the impregnated chemical membrane. This design allows for the lowest sensitivity possible on a test strip. Coupled with this design is another feature that is unique: SenSafe test strip only contain 1/100th the amount of chemical compared to most commonly used test kits.

“A lot of people think, ‘It’s a test strip, they’re all the same,’ but that’s not true,” says Lea Jaunakais, Vice President of Industrial Test Systems. “We have patents on some of our indicators, so we have very specific instructions for some of our products that are very different from any other product we offer and very different from any other product on the market.” In addition, says Jaunakais, if you buy a new kit, read the new directions. “So many people get familiar with a certain test procedure, and then they buy a different product, but instead of reading the instructions, they use a similar procedure that they’ve been using for years and get inconsistent results.”

AQUA STONE TAKES ON NEW SEAMLESS POOL COVERING A new style floor covering perfect for swimming pool surrounds was seen at SPATEX for the first time. The seamless wall and floor covering comes from French company DSM Fabricant but will be available in the UK through Aqua Stone Pool Finishes Ltd.

DSM has developed a resin bond surfacing system using natural stones such as granite, marble, riverbed pebbles and coloured glass. The flooring is made of natural aggregates blended with resin to give a carpet like finish. Said Fabrice Rys DSM Fabricant’s Export Manager: “We have built up a lot of expertise in resin bond surfaces. This new product was made to complement the building industry with walls and floors made with a natural stone finish but with the flexibility of fitting of carpets. So it’s seamlessly easy to fit yet has a luxurious tile feel and look to it.”

LO-CHLOR ABLE TO RESPOND FASTER A move to manufacturing the popular Lo-Chlor range in the UK has provided

a big boost to the swimming pool and spa chemicals brand. Paul Grunhut said the range of specialist chemicals which is being made in the UK by Total Water Products, has been a significant move.

“It has meant we can really step up our levels of service and ensure our stocks remain high at the important times of the year, enabling us to support our UK and European customers. The manufacturing base is now in Baglan in Port Talbot.

“We have a great following for the Lo-Chlor products. The trade knows them well and we’ve been providing solutions for swimming pool and spa problems around the globe for the last 20 years. It just helps now we are making them here,” added Paul.

Paul Simons, Managing Director of Lo-Chlor Chemicals head office in Australia was at Brighton for the three day show.

“This will give a great boost to the business here. It means faster and better service and the chance for the Port Talbot team to do a lot more with the brand,” he said. spn
