MUSIC CAN BE ONE of the most emotive and memorable parts of your big day and that’s why selecting the right entertainment is paramount to the success of the whole day. When it comes to booking entertainment, there are many factors to consider. Music-wise, you don’t just need to think of tracks to get the party started, you may want to think about music during the wedding service, when your guests are being seated, and music during your reception – both as guests arrive and during the meal. String quartets, pianists and harpists are good choices for during-dining music, as they’re classic without being intrusive.

If you’re thinking of choosing a wedding band, the choice can be more complex. A quick internet search is unlikely to prove conclusive. Before you make any final decisions try and watch the band live or ask to see a DVD of them performing before you actually part with any cash. Discuss in advance how long you want the band to play for, how they’ll set up and how many breaks they will take. Agree, too, on a set-list and discuss any special arrangements you require. If budgets allow, a lot of couples opt for having both a band and a disco. With the latter, the DJ plays a crucial role in the success of any party, as they’re responsible for directing the pace of any event by playing the right songs at the right time. Make sure you ask your DJ in advance if there are any overtime charges and whether his travel costs are included

Wedding Tip...

Before you sign on the dotted line, ask your DJ if he offers an online playlist

service. Some DJs will give you a login to your own account where you can pick songs from an online database.
