WHETHER YOU’RE A BRIDE who’s had her wedding day planned ever since she was a little girl or a bride starting from scratch, organising a wedding can be a real challenge. If you are getting married abroad, make sure you invite your guests at least six months in advance to give them enough time to plan and save. Provide as much detail as possible with your invitation, including hotel options for them to choose accommodation from, the currency they’ll need to take with them, details of the language spoken at the resort and so on. Make technology work for you: these days it’s possible to purchase downloadable wedding apps for mobile phones, which give brides useful planning tips. Invitations and wedding stationery


If you’re getting your invitations made from scratch, make sure you receive advance examples of the printer’s work by post or email. Remember that your invitation will set the tone for your wedding. You’ll need to think about menus, place cards, order of service and perhaps bespoke thank-you cards, too.





Invitations – your check list: ■ Eight months to go:


order your save-the-date cards, invitations, reply cards and envelopes. Allow one invitation per couple and family to cut costs.


■ Five months to go: send your save-the-date cards.


■ Two months to go:


print any additional information and send them with your invitations and RSVP cards.


■ One month to go: chase any RSVPs.


Compile your full guest list and order place name cards and menus.


■ Three weeks to go:


sort and order your table plan if you aren’t making one yourself.


■ Two weeks to go:


put your table plan together and write your place names and give them to your caterer or wedding planner at your venue.
