DairyMilk to receive resealable packs
dates Feb-Mar 2012
Kraft Foods have announced that they are to introduce resealable primary packaging and shelf- ready packaging for it’s Cadbury DairyMilk brand. Inwhat is reported to be a £6
million pound investment, Kraft have started building new equipment to produce resealable flexible plastic packs. Also, it is reported that new
shelf-ready packaging (SRP) is going to be implemented, which will allowthe bars to be stacked upright instead of down flat. The packagingwill also have a spring mechanismthatwill push the remaining bars to the front of the packwhen others are taken.
In a statement, Kraft Foods UK
president Nick Bunker said: “Shelf ready packaging allows retailers to simply remove the front of the case containing the chocolate bars and put it straight on to the stores’ shelves. “This will see the chocolate
bars stacked upright on shelf, ensuring they stand out. Previously, they would have been packed flat – making them harder to find for the shopper. “DairyMilkwill also be
wrapped in ‘easy open, easy close’material that allows consumers to reseal the wrapping and keep the chocolate fresh.”
Forest react to plain cigarette pack debate
Following the publication of the BritishHeart Foundation’s report on plain cigarette pack packaging, where they stated that youth smokerswere influenced by the design of the pack, Forest (FreedomOrganisation for the Right to Enjoy Smoking Tobacco), were quick to react. Director Simon Clark said:
laminate for chewing tobacco and as a result there has been a significant fall in Indian BoPET film demand. Packaging film customers are also nowwell stocked against further pricemovements. The news comes as a
welcome surprise to the industry, who have had to consistently battle against increasing raw material and ink prices.
"There is no evidence that plain packs will make any difference to youth smoking rates. The vast majority of young people are influenced not by packaging but by peer pressure and the fact that members of their family are smokers.
"Tens of millions of people
have been exposed to branded cigarette packs for decades and have never been encouraged to start smoking. To suggest that people are so easily influenced by the sight of a coloured pack is not only patronising, it's downright offensive. "Plain packaging has nothing
to do with youth smoking rates. It is just another step towards the denormalisation and eventual prohibition of a legal consumer product that is enjoyed by millions of adults and generates billions of pounds each year for the government."
