END OF YEAR REVIEW CRP opens new factory
CRP, independent decorative print and packaging group, held the official opening of their new litho facility on 4th February 2011. The facility was formally opened by Louise Bagshawe, MP for Corby and East Northamptonshire, and attended by board of directors and the employee shareholder group. The investment of £3.5m, the largest in the company’s history, underpins CRP’s position and success as, according to the firm, a market leader in the design and manufacture of decorative high quality packaging for brand owners. Eddie Fellows, Managing Director at CRP said, “The new litho printing factory, the most modern of its kind in the UK, represents CRP’s determination to stay ahead of the competition through investment in the most advanced printing technologies. We are extremely excited about being able to provide our customers with best in class print finishes using this new facility.” For more information call 01536 200 333, email

Drum dump feeder
Flexicon (Europe) Ltd last year announced an all-new TIP-TITETM Drum Dump Feeder that seals drums against a discharge cone, tips the drum, and feeds bulk material into downstream equipment dust- free at controlled rates. The drum platform is raised by a single hydraulic cylinder, creating a dust-tight seal between the rim of a drum and the underside of the discharge cone. A second hydraulic cylinder tips the platform-hood assembly and drum, stopping at dump angles of up to 90°. Material flowing through the discharge cone charges the intake adapter of a cantilevered flexible screw conveyor which then feeds downstream equipment volumetrically. Skanem’s good year
In a very successful 2011 for Skanem, the company won four major prizes and several Highly Commended diplomas at the FINAT awards (right). The four major prizes won were within the Marketing and End-Users category, the first of which was in the Alcoholic Drinks sub-category. The triumphant label for Zubrówka 1L Czysta Wódka had the following judges’ comments: “The flexo, offset litho, screen and cold stamping processes have combined to produce an excellent label full of interest.” In the Booklet sub-category, the Oriflame Booklet came out on top, with the judges saying: “It is getting more difficult to fit
information onto normal single sided labels. This label overcomes this obstacle by producing a six-page booklet.” In the Household Products category, the label for Sun was successful, whilst in the Industrial Products category, the label for Kosangas was deemed the best, with the judges praising “the quality of the flexo printing” and “light fastness and weather resistance” respectively. Meanwhile, Skanem also managed to come up with what they claim to be a truly innovative labeling solution. Together with their multinational customer Oriflame, they developed a ‘Superpeel’ label solution - a concept with front and reverse printing on the adhesive side, so now, claims Skanem, only one layer is required with the option of also having much more information
on the product. Oriflame sees this as a major innovation which now allows them to provide a cost effective single variant solution whilst ensuring sufficient regulatory information on products. Brian Olesen, multinational key account manager for Skanem, reports that one of the reasons for this project was the fact that Oriflame often has to have multiple languages on their products: “This will require a two or three ply with three to five pages Peel’n Read solution. With a combination of either removing some text, or simply squeezing it more together, the three pages will now fit into two with the ‘Superpeel’ solution.” For more information call 0047 51 85 97 20, email
