END OF YEAR REVIEW Combat counterfeit

Pharmaceutical and cosmetics manufacturers can now strike back against the counterfeiters says the Atlantic Zeiser Group, the supplier of technology, modules and system solutions for industrial digital printing. The company’s Track & Trace module, released last year, according to the company, empowers brand owners by enabling them to counter the burgeoning counterfeiting threat and protect their brand reputation and revenue. The Track & Trace module, says Atlantic Zeiser, integrates easily into a new or existing print packaging production line and users can include all standard product tracking codes on the packaging. The codes include GS1, all types of numeric codes and 1-D and 2-D barcodes, which are used to check the legitimacy of the packaging and product online. Track & Trace also includes an optical checking system. The company says that in just one fast step, cameras automatically read and verify the selected layout and check the digits. For more information call 0049 7465 291400, email sales@atlanticzeiser.com or visit www.atlanticzeiser.com.

Agr’s OptiCheck

Agr International announced its latest product for plastic container manufacturers, the OptiCheck™

gauging system, last year. According to the company, the OptiCheck™

vision inspection and system

introduces a new level of vision-based quality management and process monitoring that takes into consideration the day-to-day variations in the production of plastic containers. It has also been reported that the system offers an easy to operate approach that is compatible with frequent product changeovers and colour changes. Agr claim the system is unlike any other as it is designed specifically for bottle

Saving broken reels

After a series of successful demonstrations last year, a number of companies within the packaging, corrugating and paper converting sector, according to Jarshire, have purchased

their Reel-savers to restore three, six and eight inch ID cores on old or damaged reel stock. These customers are already making big savings, says the company - one reporting payback within just five minutes! Packaging material that once had to be put to one side because of damage to cores sustained during transit or on-site handling can now be back in the production stream within minutes, claims Jarshire. Pneumatically operated, the Jarshire Reel- Saver's tapered jaws are reported to work by simply being inserted into the damaged core and, at a flick of a switch, they expand to return the core to its original shape. For more information call 01753 825122, email sales@jarshire.co.uk or visit www.jarshire.co.uk.

A Krafty promotion

A printed high impact wide-width message tape from global leader Payne started being used to deliver an on-pack promotion and enhance the branding of Kraft Club Social crackers in Brazil last year. The eye-catching tape, according to Payne, carried a colourful promotional message and could be applied quickly and cost effectively to the outside of flow-wrapped packs of the Club Social crackers, delivering impact without the overall pack design having to be changed. According to the tear-tape specialist, Payne’s wide-width message tape is an ideal message medium for markets including wrapped, bagged and frozen/chilled foods as it means manufacturers can run fixed-term

promotions and communications without needing a redesign. In Brazil, the tape was promoting Kraft’s iPhone 4 competition. For more information call 0115 975 9001, email sales@payne-worldwide.com or visit www.payne-worldwide.com.

POLYPRINT ACHIEVES GLOBAL FOOD PACKAGING CERTIFICATION

Polyprint signalled its intention to expand into the food packaging sector by achieving British Retail Consortium (BRC) certification (packaging and packaging materials) – widely held to be the Global standard – at the first time of applying in 2011. The accreditation means that Polyprint can now expand its operations into primary-contact food packaging

printing – and the company is already winning orders. Polyprint originally made mailing films, but has seen demand increase for print packaging materials over recent years, so the certification was a logical step to take. For more information call 01603 721807, email info@polyprint.co.uk or visit www.polyprint.co.uk.
