PACKAGING INNOVATIONS PREVIEW

EXCITEMENT BUILDS...

With the start of the new year comes the start of the UK’s show season. Kicking things off for 2012, organisers easyfairs are back with their Packaging Innovations show, which is taking place at the Birmingham NEC from the 29th February to the 1st March. On the next couple of pages is our preview of who’s going to be there, but to find out more about the show itself, Packaging Gazette spoke to Matt Benyon, Managing Director of easyfairs. Our editor Rebecca will see you there in February!

Q

Hi Matt. What have visitors and exhibitors come to expect from

the Packaging Innovations show? As the show sits alongside our other four packaging shows – ECOPACK, CONTRACT PACK, PACKTECH, and PRINT INNOVATIONS – visitors have come to expect an array of top quality innovative exhibitors covering the entire packaging sector along with a host of leading experts discussing the hottest trends in the industry. For exhibitors, they have come to expect a trade show which attracts serious decision makers looking to do business.

Q

What were some of the show’s highlights last year?

Our Dragons Den inspired Lions’ Lair competition was a huge success again last year.

It was also our biggest show to date, attracting over 350 exhibitors and 4,500 visitors.

Q

What aspects are new for the show in 2012 and what makes

them such good ideas? Making its debut this year is PRINT INNOVATIONS 2012, a new show for end users and buyers of all print products. Print packaging has become increasingly more important to the industry, therefore a good idea, I feel, for it to have its own identity within our packaging show portfolio. The BIG Packaging Debate topic – ‘Sustainable packaging: saving

visitors and exhibitors

Last year’s show saw the exhibit’s highest number of both

the planet or costing the earth’ – is also new for 2012. We’ve got a great panel of speakers including Stuart Lendrum from Sainsbury’s.

Q

What speakers or parts of the show that you are looking forward to?

Yes, we’ve got a big workshop taking place on counterfeiting of products and packaging which I’m very much looking forward to. The workshop will help attendees identify the issues and look at emerging packaging trends and technologies, such as visible holograms and hidden printing, coating and forensic technologies. 

The missing piece to

your packaging puzzle? The presents have been unwrapped, the turkey eaten and the ball dropped at midnight and here we are again…another new year! So what do we do now? January is the perfect time to sit down and reflect on the highs and lows of the previous twelve months. No matter how successful the last year has been, why not challenge yourself and your business to do even better this year? Easypack, specialists in paper void fill packaging solutions, say that with them, you could save money, become more environmentally friendly and reduce storage space used on void fill. At the Packaging Innovations show in February, Easypack will be showing their products, which use 100 per cent recycled paper that is also recyclable and biodegradable. The company says this is great news for your business’s green credentials and also for your customers as it means that packaging can be easily

disposed of or recycled by them. Latest offerings from Easypack include their ‘Packsolo’ and ‘Packmaster’ systems, which produce lightweight cushions to absorb impact and hold items tightly in place during transit. The company says the cushions are easily shaped and moulded to product shapes for maximum protection and that each has been specifically designed to provide the best quality single ply and two ply packaging grades respectively. Both systems now feature simple, uniquely interchangeable control options for ease of use from semi automatic to fully automatic functionality, which can be remotely located to suit the individual needs of your packing stations. The Easypack range also includes the ‘Packmate’, which is similar to the ‘Packsolo’ but, says the specialist, is designed to be compact to fit any production environment. The company have also recently released the latest version of the ‘Shredder’, which converts surplus cardboard boxes into a supple mat that is ideal for protection and void fill for all types of goods in transit – effectively, says the company, enabling you to produce free packaging for your goods. For more information call 0845 838 0168, email info@easypack.net or visit www.easypack.net.
