END OF YEAR REVIEW Korsnäs go
environmental Korsnäs Gävle, last year, invested a total of SEK 570m to build a new evaporation plant, which has the responsibility of both enhancing energy efficiency and cutting emissions. The impressive investment means that oil consumption will decrease by nearly 50 per cent and that carbon dioxide emissions will therefore fall by the same amount. The plant was inaugurated by Barbro Holmgren, the County Governor of Gävleborg and Christer Simrén, CEO of Korsnäs (pictured below). Alongside the inaugural speeches, project participants and employees of Korsnäs Gävle who were present enjoyed a brass band. The new plant had taken a number of years to plan and build, employing as many as 130 people. Tests of the plant have resulted in unanimously positive assessments. "This is an important investment for Korsnäs. It halves our carbon dioxide emissions and enhances the efficiency of our work," said Christer. For more information call 0046 26 15 10 00 or visit

Keenpac accreditation
Keenpac was the proud winner of Disney’s prestigious environmental award ‘Most Sustainable Vendor, Europe’ last year. The award was presented in November at Epcot Studios, Florida. In 2010, Keenpac was one of four companies to have been nominated for the award, giving recognition to its work on the Disney packaging range which is both sustainable and environmentally friendly. However, this year, it was an outright win! Having worked with Disney for the last six years, Keenpac supplies a complete range of Disney gift boxes and themed shoppers to Disney’s stores across Europe. The inks

industry. The new anti-bacterial film makes use of silver ion technology as a way of inhibiting bacterial and microbial activity on the surface of the film. Just like the ‘well known brand of bleach’, the film is, National Flexible claims, effective in eliminating 99.9 per cent of bacteria on packed product in contact with the film. This includes effectively attacking the Staphylococcus bacteria as well as Escherichia Coli (
E.coli). The film’s performance has been independently tested under ISO:22196 and meets approval for direct food contact. It is identical in appearance and performance to standard BOPP films. For more information call 01274 685566, email

New taste twists
Kerry Ingredients & Flavours launched a range of six new natural citrus flavourings for beverages, known as ‘taste twists’ in 2011. Forming part of their Citrus Collection, these can be used individually and mixed with other flavours to help create what the company claims to be innovative, refreshing new products. NOBEL: MAKING KELLOGG’S FIRE SAFE
Nobel installed one of their K-Series fire suppression systems in the kitchen of the on-site staff canteen at the Kellogg’s production facility near Wrexham in 2011. The site employs approximately 500 people with the majority working on a five-shift continuous rota basis. And it was that very fact meant that Nobel had to carry out all the installation work at a time when the
staff would be least inconvenienced. So Nobel agreed with the specialist Fire Safety contractors, Scarff Fire Safety of Colwyn Bay, that all work would be carried out in four hour shifts over a two day period to ensure minimum interference. For more information call 01706 625777, email
