MADS MIKKELSEN FILMOGRAPHY

fre opposite Daniel Craig’s 007 in Casino Royale with exactly the same enthusiasm as when he talks about working with Refn or Susanne Bier. “It was a fantastic set. The producers were fan- tastic. It was like a little family. Everybody says that about the Bond films. It is a cliché but they are fantastic people. It felt like doing a little Dogme to be honest. We just worked on the scenes until we got them in the box and then, sooner than you know it, it’s a big Bond film.” He adds that even if the process remains

largely the same, there are obvious differences between working on Clash Of The Titans or The Three Musketeers and on lower budget Euro- pean films. “You have to say good morning to

400 people,” he says of the tentpole movies he has shot. How is his success regarded back home in

Denmark? “It goes both ways,” he reflects stoi- cally. “Some people like to celebrate it and some think you’re just a fucking idiot anyway. Den- mark is a funny place. They tend not to celebrate something that is worth celebrating and they tend to cheer something that is not worth cheer- ing. It is a beautiful mix as we say.” Mikkelsen hasn’t prepared a speech in advance

of his trip to Berlin and he admits to a certain nervousness. Nonetheless, his half-day in Berlin will be a break from what looks like one of his most demanding roles in Vinterberg’s The Hunt.
