It is a great pleasure to welcome you to the 2011 European Film Awards. We are here in Berlin to celebrate the very best of European fi lm. As you will see from the list of nominees, we have an impressive array of talent to celebrate.
Films originating from other countries,
together with their diverse themes and subjects, broaden our cultural vocabulary. They enable us to view the world from new perspectives and to better understand the rich tapestry of life.
While it remains a pleasure for those within
the industry to celebrate the achievements of our talented professionals, it is of the utmost impor- tance that audiences see, enjoy and share our fi lms. In that respect the next generation MEDIA programme will focus on reaching out to audi- ences and inspiring a passion for discovering more European fi lms.
