The last year has been, by all accounts, remarkable. The college’s enrollment and retention have both increased, along with fundraising and the college’s ability to offer scholarship support.
Our creative community of faculty, students and alumni have won many recognitions, opportunities to exhibit, and publish. We are most proud of Corinne Reid, class of 2011, who won what Illustration Chair Fred Lynch calls "the Heisman Trophy of art school awards" when she won the National Society of Illustrators Student Award out of 7,000 entries!
In this issue you will read about the impact Montserrat has on our surrounding communities through gallery exhibitions and free lectures; faculty, staff and student volunteerism; the hosting of the

annual Congressional Arts Competition for high school students; and placement of Montserrat students in area businesses as interns — developing work and entrepreneurial skills, while providing important project work to local and regional companies.
We thank those who have supported us in so many ways over the past year, especially members of our generous Board of Trustees, and hope this issue will prompt you to attend events and continue your support of Montserrat.
